🌿 UPM Innovation Success at Sabah Festival of Ideas & EXCOCIPTA 2025 🌿
On October 16–17, 2025, Prof. Madya Dr. Nur Kartinee Kassim and her team achieved a brilliant accomplishment for Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) at the Sabah Festival of Ideas & EXCOCIPTA 2025, held at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). This annual event brings together over 200 local and national innovation entries, aiming to drive creativity, technology, and scientific research at the highest level.
At this festival, Mr. MoleC®, a bio-repellent based on plant extracts, was presented and demonstrated by Carol, the team representative, to the judges and visitors. This product is specifically designed to repel major crop pests, including stem borers, leaf rollers, and stink bugs, using a safe, environmentally friendly, and chemical-free natural method. Mr MoleC® is not just a scientific innovation; it is the result of detailed research by UPM, combining principles of plant biology, natural chemistry, and agricultural application technology. Each extract is tested in the laboratory and in the field to ensure optimal effectiveness and consumer safety.
Not only did they participate as exhibitors, but the UPM team also competed in the Invention Competition (PEREKA). As a result, they won a GOLD Medal 🥇 in the 'Environmental and Applied Life Science' category. This success recognizes the potential of local innovation to make a significant impact in the agricultural and environmental sustainability sectors.
Importance of Professional Innovation Presentation
One of the key factors in the team's success is the way Carol presented the innovations professionally and convincingly. In this innovation presentation, he:
Emphasizing the practical application of Mr MoleC® on farms and in agricultural areas.
Presenting scientific data and field tests that support the product's effectiveness.
Clearly conveying the vision of sustainable agriculture to the judges and visitors.
A good innovation presentation not only captures the judges' attention but also connects academic research with practical opportunities in the real world, making scientific ideas widely applicable.
This success shows that local innovation can:
Promotesustainable agriculture by reducing the use of harmful chemicals.
Accelerating the development of science-based green technology and bio-repellents.
Increasing environmental awareness among farmers and the community.
Thank you also to everyone who visited the UPM booth in Sabah. The warm reception from visitors, especially the friendly and positive people of Sabah, has boosted the team's morale to continue driving innovation and bringing research to the national and regional stage.
